About Vitamin B₁₂ Deficiency

Active-B12 or holotranscobalamin (HoloTC) represents the (typically) 25% fraction of vitamin B₁₂ in the blood that is biologically available and Axis-Shield has developed patented assays to determine blood levels of this marker as an effective way of detecting deficiency of this important vitamin. We originally marketed an RIA only but this has been withdrawn following the launch of a non-isotopic assay under  the AxSYM xtra progamme, and a manual ELISA is planned for release late-2009.  General news on the role of Active-B12 as a marker can be found at http://www.active-b12.com
