This range of Axis-Shield assays on the widely-placed AxSYM immunoassay analyser - (see Abbott website) is an important addition to the already comprehensive menu of this benchmark system.

First kits in this range are tests for D-Dimer (not available in the USA), which is used to detect deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, and Active-B12 (also known as HoloTC or holo-transcobalamin) for the effective identification of vitamin B₁₂ deficiency, particularly in the 30% or so of total vitamin B₁₂ assays which are indeterminate. A test to detect anti-CCP antibodies, as an aid in the early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, is also available, together with an immunoassay for HbA1c using patented Axis-Shield technology. The latter assay is used for measuring the effectiveness of blood glucose control in diabetes and increasingly its utility is being recognised as a front line screen for diabetes diagnosis
